Candidates must note that the CDS exam pattern of IMA (Indian Military Academy), INA (Indian Naval Academy) and IAFA (Indian Air Force Academy) are the same and there is a slight change in the CDS exam pattern of OTA (Officers Training Academy).

cds exam Important Details of the Pattern:

• The CDS exam will be offline, i.e. through pen and paper mode.
• The question paper of Mathematics and General Knowledge will be set bilingually, i.e. in Hindi and English.
• All the tests will have objective type questions only.
• The English and General Knowledge sections will have 120 questions each, while the Mathematics section will have 100 questions.
• There is a penalty for every wrong answer. 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer marked by the candidate.
• Under no circumstances will writing of answers be allowed in the examination.

English- Correct use of spaces, sentence correction, comprehension, errors, English words, tenses, verbs etc.

Common Sense- Current Events, Business, Politics, Sports, Entertainment, Indian Economy, Books & Authors Name, History, Banking Sector, Prize Games, RBI Working Policies, Geography etc.

• Arithmetic: Number System- Natural Numbers, Fundamental Operations, Ratio and Comparison, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Percentage, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Integration Method, Decimal Fractions, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Applications to rationals and applications to real numbers, integers and variations.
• elementary number theory– Multiples and Factors, Theorems, Tests of divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11, HCF and L.C.M., Euclidean Algorithm, Use of Logarithm Tables, Prime and Composite Numbers, Laws of Logarithm and Division Algorithm .
• Geometry Plane and plane figures, lines and angles, properties of angles at a point, parallel lines, sides and angles of a triangle, congruence of triangles, similar triangles, congruence of medians and altitudes, properties of angles, tangents including circles and its properties and Standards, sides and diagonals of square, rectangle and parallelogram.
• Trigonometry Sines & coses, simple trigonometry, use of trigonometric tables, simple cases of height and distance.
• Algebra- Language sets and set notations, Laws of indices, Rational expressions, Practical problems, Linear inequalities, Simultaneous linear equations in two unknowns-analytical and graphical solutions, Relation between roots and coefficients, Solutions of quadratic equations, Theory of polynomials, Remainder theorem , Basic Operations, Simple Factors, HCF, LCM etc.
• Statistics Graphical representation frequency polygon, collection and tabulation of statistical data, measures of central tendency, histogram, pie chart, bar chart etc.
• Mensuration Areas of squares, circles, triangles, rectangles and parallelograms, areas of figures that can be divided into surface area and volume of cuboids in these figures, lateral surface and right spheroid, surface area and volume of spheres, etc.
