causes of obsessive compulsive disorder

It has been found in people suffering from this disease that there is a lack of coordination between the outer part of the brain and the inner part. It has been found that due to unbalanced formation of neurotransmitter serotonin, diseases like OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) are found in people. The causes of this disease can also be genetic, as well as brain malfunction and stress means imbalance in life are also the reasons due to which people can suffer from the disease of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. At present, research is going on on this and medical science is constantly trying to gather more information about it.

obsessive compulsive disorder treatment

Psychologist Dr. Sanjeev Tyagi says that people suffering from OCD need to be heard and understood. Convincing them and forcing them to leave something under pressure can be counter productive. Many patients feel that there is no one to understand their inner feelings.

Therefore, according to Dr. Sanjeev Tyagi, patients should be given the opportunity to express their strong feelings and they can do so only when they are sure that the feelings they express will not be ridiculed.

Psychiatrist Dr. R Chandra says that it is easy to diagnose the disease of a patient suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder but its treatment is always difficult.

According to Dr. Chandra, every patient’s response to medicine is different, so many times explaining to the patient by family or friends makes the patient more irritable. That’s why different patients are treated by giving different combination of medicines for the same disease.

Some patients respond better even in small doses, while some require higher doses. Generally the patient is treated by giving Anti-depressant and Psychotherapy while Psychotherapy proves effective in few cases.

Experts believe that the brain is still a very complex subject for medical science and medical science has still not been able to fully understand it. Anti-depressant increases the amount of serotonin in the brain, but there is still no clarity about its quantity in many parts of the brain.

But doctors are unanimous about the fact that mental problems are also like other physical problems, so if any problem is seen regarding this, then the doctor’s advice should be taken immediately. It is very easy to find a solution to the problem in the initial stage, whereas the treatment of complex things like brain is equally difficult after suffering from a serious illness.
